Your best bet is the hop on - hop off bus. They used to have two days deal with two walking tours included. Take one that sports the change of royal guards. You cannot see much on your own, and the guides know where to stand to see the guards leav their barracks and then will take you through a back alley directly where the action is. At least it is how it was with us. We had two walking tours, one was the "judicial London" or something along that line, an it sucked. The other was about Ian Fleming and it was great.

As of sights, you want to see the British museum (2 blocks from your hotel), the Tower, the Piccadilly, Trafalgar Square, all the standard fare. Do go and see a show at the Globus theater. See Kensington gardens. All these sights are on the bus route. See the buckingham palace and the royal mews - you can't go wrong with that!

And try English cream tea, it's a must. Spotted dick is another good desert, despite the name!

Just an observation.

It is unquestionably rude to ask questions in English in a Russian-language forum, and not even apologize. And, rudness in one issue is a good indicator of a character in general: you did not even bother to thank me for my information. Ex pede Herculem, huh.

Yet another observation will be that those who shun writing in Russian usually have quite poor command of English themselves.

thank you very much for your very helpful information, but I was out of town and couldn"t reply earlier.

Sorry for typing in English, but I don"t have Russian letters on my PS and would type in Russian very slowly.

I could write in Russian of course. Thanks again for your reply

You are welcome. For the future, there is a simple solution to this: you start your post by saying that you are sorry for writing in English, which is because you do not have a Cyrillic keyboard. Just a little courtesy, but it conveys your understanding that not everybody speaks English (although most do, nowadays).

anyway, good luck with your trip.

thank you again
